Oveur's dev blog happens to be the most ridiculous justification for changing the game into something _he_ likes, not what the players want who are being affected by the change.
After a couple of years of on and off playing, I've just now got to the point where I can defeat any mission content solo without trouble. (When I say any, I mean including the likes of AE bonus.) It's taken a lot of skills and _a LOT_ of equipment to get there. And I lost quite a few ships learning lessons the hard way.
Now here's what I need:
More challenging content (Level 5)
Here's what I do not need:
Less challenging content (the proposed new L4s, the proposed removal of tough L4s) Risking of my sizable ship investment on the whim of 12-year-olds in low sec (The risk due to new mish difficulty is perfectly acceptable.) The inability to play casually, due to needing a gank squad before running a mish
I'm all for making L4s an easier transition for newbies, but screwing over experienced mish-runners by making L5 low-sec only isn't the answer either. Oh yeah, and if you were so concerned with newbie mish runners (which I doubt), then explain RMR (which added or changed most of the mishes we now consider the hard ones). If you personally like PvP, fine. But that doesn't mean I have to (and it doesn't mean that most mish-runners would like to see them integrated just because you do). I won't be forced into it, and for all your dancing around the subject, that is exactly what you're trying to do. Why else would you make such categorical statements as "Eve is a PvP game" in a blog about mission changes?
Also Oveur, the reason nobody is suggesting that L5s be in 0.5 is because... apparently nobody affected by this wants to go to (neighboring) low-sec! If they did, they would already be there. Not to mention the swell of pirates that would cause in those systems.
I don't know what missions you are referring to as being "too lucrative", considering the most profitable missions also take "too long". Especially now with the advent of can-mining... err, i mean salvaging.
I think some of the other changes are good, like having an LP store, and LPs associated with npc corporation. Those are changes that are long OveurDue.
Seems that over the past little couple of years, missions and mission runners have been getting mostly nerfs. Don't even get me started on the missile nerf (aka missile revamp). Mission bounties (but not belt rat bounties) got nerfed. Then missiles got nerfed again (t2 javelin torps did, anyway). Then loot quantity and the looting process got nerfed (aka salvaging).
Seems like historically, I see a lot of CCP giving my favorite game area the finger.
I'm going to wait and see how this actually plays out on the live server before I go about cancelling accounts. Hopefully someone there at CCP will come to their senses before then.
